Topic : Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan / The Issue of the Renaissance Dam

Chair: Jana Diriyeh

Vice Chairs: Adam Arnaot, and Dania Firas

Chair’s Letter: Dear Delegates, As the Chair of the International Court of Justice Committee, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the ASP Spring Conference of 2025! ICJ is a committee that requires comprehensive preparation. So we expect nothing but detailed research, well thought evidence, and compelling speeches that will convince the jury of your case. Teamwork and collaboration are key—keep them in mind, as they’ll serve you well in the ICJ. This committee is about uncovering the truth through hard, absolute facts– pure evidence that will allow us to unveil a just verdict. The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, for example, presents one of the most devastating invasions in the last 100 years; the country’s infrastructure was devastated and left more than 1 million people dead. The Renaissance Dam is affecting Sudan’s hydropower generation and irrigation supply; leaving many at the risk of famine and food insecurity. As my last ASPMUN conference, it means a lot to me. MUN strengthened and founded many skills of mine. Even more importantly, it allowed me to experience many of my most treasured and valuable memories. I hope you benefit and enjoy MUN as much as I did.
